In his ten-year career with the Kansas City Chiefs, Derrick Thomas put up a lot of ridiculous numbers. Thomas’s 126.5 career sacks (including an incredible seven in one game), 41 forced fumbles, and 19 fumble recoveries make it clear that he belongs on the Madden All 25 Team.
“A true sack master and tackle magnet, DT was without question a true run stopping LB at any capacity. He was normally the first one there to make the stop on any given down, especially in the backfield.” - Brian Parker
Derrick Thomas is on this list like many other defenders because his on-field athleticism translated to speed in Madden NFL ‘97. The video game version of DT was just as disruptive as the real life version.” - Shaun Mason
This “version” of the NFL Hall of Famer comes from Madden NFL ‘97, the first game in the series for the Sony PlayStation. That season, Thomas tallied 13 sacks.
“Thomas was pure speed off the edge, and one of the most dominant pass rushers ever. You could line him up just off the edge and use his raw ability to get around the tackle for a sack. The CPU didn’t know what hit them!” - Zfarls
Thomas’ life tragically came to an end just weeks after the end of the 1999-2000 season. He was one of the best pass rushers in NFL history, and in Madden he was a total difference-maker.
“DT58 was possibly the greatest pass rusher of the 1990’s, and that was evident in Madden NFL ‘97. Using Derrick Thomas off the right defensive edge was devastating. The best way to attempt to neutralize Derrick was to run off tackle right or load up personnel on the left side of the line. When using the Chiefs, it was best to just let Thomas go after the quarterback, and calling plays such as 4-3 Fire Man was a great way to do that. Quarterbacks can’t throw when they are on the ground… and DT brought the heat!” - Casey Mosier
